The History Of... Total Coarse Fishing

Total Coarse Fishing (tcf) is aimed at the angler who wants to catch quality fish from a variety of venues. Our promise is simple: we’ll teach you what to do, we’ll tell you what to use and we’ll show you where to do it.

The magazine has its roots partly in DHP’s former publications Midland Angler and Southern Angler. Meetings took place at DHP at the end of 2005 when the staff of these publications were invited to say where they thought the two titles were heading. The main protagonists, ex-editor Gareth Purnell and still deputy editor Steve Martin, felt they had taken the two regional titles as far as they could, but that the time was right for a new national magazine aimed at the everyday angler who likes to keep their fishing varied. The rest is history.

Midland Angler and Southern Angler were sold and Total Coarse Fishing hit the shelves in the summer of 2006, accompanied by a television advertising campaign. Respected line-manufacturer Ultima came on board, and the first three issues boasted a spool of its new Power Plus line taped proudly to the cover.

Reader feedback from early issues was fantastic as they realised that DHP had produced a magazine they could trust, with content that was truly relevant to the sort of fishing they preferred.

Nearly two years on, and things are set to get even more exciting for Total Coarse Fishing following the appointment of Kevin Wilmot as editor in October 2008. Kevin brings more than 26 years’ worth of editorial skills, experience and contacts to DHP, having previously worked on some of Britain’s most successful angling magazines.

An accomplished angler himself, Kevin’s out on the bank every weekend, as happy trotting breadflake along the Hampshire Avon as he is pole fishing his local commercial-carp lake.

The year 2009 will see the start of the next chapter in the life of Total Coarse Fishing magazine. There will be a host of new features and contributors, including four-times World Champion Bob Nudd and predator maestro Mick Brown.

Angling has changed so much in the last 15 years – something Total Coarse Fishing is only too aware of. We’re moving with the times. Make sure you do too – take a look at Total Coarse Fishing. We know you’ll like it.
